Designing your dwelling
So you want to perform some remodeling to your place of residence. There are many reasons to do this and there are many different levels of remodeling. Maybe you live in an apartment or a place you cannot call your own. Remodeling in my eyes is anything you can do to make your home stay a little easier. Rearranging your cabinets or categorize them so you can find things easier.
When I was young, I had a townhouse that my grandparents rented out. It was about the time in my me writing when I came back to Phoenix to get my life back in order. Anyway I have thought styling out the inside of this townhouse would be both a good experience and also would be more appealing to the next renters. At this time I was in school relearning CAD and also learning how to draw in 3D.
Here is a list of things I created in my townhouse.
The townhouse was arranged with a living. dining, kitchen and a half bath on the main floor upstairs was two bedrooms and a full bath. Before I did anything in this dated space was to draw all rooms in CAD first, then on to 3d CAD for a more life like look. This technology was new to me and remembering back, it was in the mid 90’s! This also means this time was before Sketchup, this is one of the go to go software programs for 3D.
I started out with a window upgrade meaning new vertical blinds, I also added a black screen roller to make the day into night. I painted all the walls in the downstairs a faux pattern of wild psychedelic color. Paint is a beautiful thing because it’s so easy to redo. Looking down you see a nasty orange shag carpet, well that has to go quickly! Now things that I thought about doing didn’t make sense because of costs and/or wear and tear. Wood flooring would be nice but carpet made more sense.
The kitchen was lacking in many areas so I decided it would be better to start from scratch, those small roaches infested this area big time! Fortunately connected to the kitchen was a half bath that I used as a temp. kitchen.
Depending on where you live, you may be able to talk your landlord into taking some rent off for doing minor improvements?

Loaded with bug spray, Johnny and I tore down the kitchen almost completely, we did leave the refrigerator and stove but that’s it.
